Hanuman-Jayanti celebration on 22 October, 2014
Hanuman Jayanti or Hanumat-Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Hanuman, widely venerated throughout India. It is celebrated on the 14th day of the Krishna Paksha, during the month of Kartik. Jagadguru Ramanandacharya has suggested in his Vaishnav-matabja-bhaskara, the most celebrated theological work for Vaishnavas that Hanumat-jayanti should be celebrated on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi. He has written that
Svātyāṁ kujē śaivatithau tu kārtikē
kr̥ṣṇēñjanāgarbhata ēva mēṣakē.
Śrīmān kapīṭ prādurabhūt parantapō
vratādinā tatra tadutsavaṁ carēt..4.25..
